Something New

Live Stock :: Pig :: Feeding Management

I have only a few followers on my blog that is titled "Out of the Woodwork", However, that blog has been dedicated to stories related to my passion for woodworking, at least in an occasionally indirect manner. As such, my intent was to keep the subjects free of what might be considered political comment. To that end this new blog, "Coming to My Senses" will reluctantly, but sincerely go beyond where the previous blog went.

Any of my previous followers are probably aware of the tendency to incorporate something relative to my faith belief (Christianity) and the bearing that might have on the post. That will, hopefully, continue to be a feature in the new blog. This may seem contrary to the old saw "Don't mix politics with religion." However, I fail to see what should determine one's political opinion if it is not their faith.

So, where does the new blog title come in? If you are familiar with the parable of "The Prodigal Son" (Luke 15:11-31), at verse 17, the wayward son who was now in poverty forced to feed pigs is described this way, "...he came to his senses". If you are familiar with the parable, you know what happens next. If you are not, I will not spoil it for you. Go read it for yourself, slowly and thoughtfully.

At many points in my life, I have been like that prodigal son; thinking I know better than my father and getting into a situation in which I had to admit I had made a mistake and just like him, I had to come to my senses, swallow my pride and ask, one way or another, for forgiveness. When you find yourself in the mess made by bad decisions you must come to that point where you come to your senses. Hopefully, this new blog will be helpful in giving me a chance to correct some errors in judgement and by so doing encourage anyone willing to read the post to do likewise.

The prodigal son returned to his father hoping only to be accepted as a household servant. Our Father in Heaven will run towards us, welcoming us home and reinstating us as His child. Look around, In what situation do you find yourself? Is it time that you "come to your senses" and live a life that shows you believe being more like Jesus has to show in the decisions you make? We need not wait until we are tempted to eat the hog slop.
